GSTN has released a new advisory. Pl read the details below..

Dear Valued Taxpayers,

We’ve got some exciting updates on the GST registration process that we’d like to share with you. As you embark on your GST journey, here are some crucial points to bear in mind:

  1. A Smarter Application Process: We’re constantly evolving to make your registration experience smoother. Rule 8 of the CGST Rules, 2017 has been revamped. Now, you can be identified on the common portal using cutting-edge data analysis and risk assessment techniques. This includes Biometric-based Aadhaar Authentication and a nifty photograph of you. All this will be cross-checked with the original documents you uploaded.
  2. Tech-Powered Rollout: We’re not just about words; we’re about action. This new functionality was launched in Puducherry on August 30, 2023, and it’s making its way to Gujarat on November 7, 2023.
  3. Easier Document Verification: The process is now even more user-friendly. After submitting your application (Form GST REG-01), you’ll receive an email containing one of two links: (a) A link for OTP-based Aadhaar Authentication OR (b) A link for booking an appointment at a GST Suvidha Kendra (GSK), with details on which GSK to visit and your jurisdiction, for Biometric-based Aadhaar Authentication and document verification.
  4. Simplified for Some: If you receive the link for OTP-based Aadhaar Authentication (as in point 3a), you can follow the existing process.
  5. Appointment is the Key: For those getting the link mentioned in point 3b, you’ll need to book an appointment at the designated GSK. Once you receive the appointment confirmation via email, you’re good to go to the GSK at your chosen time.
  6. Don’t Forget These: When visiting the GSK, ensure you have the following: (a) A copy (hard/soft) of the appointment confirmation email (b) Jurisdiction details from the intimation email (c) Aadhaar Number (d) Original documents you uploaded, as communicated in the intimation email
  7. GSK Visit: At the GSK, they’ll take care of biometric authentication and document verification for all the individuals specified in your GST application Form REG-01.
  8. Timing Matters: Remember to choose an appointment within the maximum permissible period indicated in the intimation email. Once the Biometric-based Aadhaar Authentication and document verification are complete, ARNs will be generated.
  9. Coming Soon: Good news for other states! While this appointment booking feature is currently available for Gujarat, we’re working hard to extend it to other states and union territories soon.
  10. Stay Updated: The GSK operation hours will be as per the guidelines provided by your respective state administration. Keep an eye out for updates.

Thank you for being an integral part of the GST community. We’re here to assist you every step of the way.

Best regards,
Team GSTN
